The hourly rate is based on cost of living within the assigned territory as well as previous experience and certifications.

Position Summary

The Asbestos Abatement Technician is responsible for the safe identification, handling, containment, removal, encapsulation, and disposal of asbestos-containing materials in residential, commercial, and industrial environments. This role may also assist with remediation of other environmental hazards such as mold and lead when required.

Technicians must strictly adhere to company policies as well as OSHA, EPA, and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Work is performed both independently and as part of a team to complete projects efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of safety, compliance, and professionalism.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in fast-paced environments, enjoys hands-on work, takes pride in helping customers, and can effectively maintain safety and quality standards throughout environmental remediation projects.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Inspect job sites to identify and assess asbestos and other hazardous materials
  • Prepare containment areas, negative air systems, and decontamination zones to prevent cross-contamination
  • Safely remove, encapsulate, transport, and dispose of asbestos-containing materials using approved techniques
  • Perform asbestos abatement and environmental remediation services according to federal, state, OSHA, EPA, and company regulations
  • Follow all OSHA, EPA, and local regulations related to hazardous material handling and disposal
  • Wear, maintain, and properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators
  • Conduct or assist with air monitoring and clearance testing as required
  • Decontaminate work areas, tools, and equipment after project completion
  • Maintain accurate daily logs, safety reports, project notes, and compliance documentation
  • Communicate project progress, safety concerns, and material needs to supervisors and team members
  • Assist with equipment setup, material pickups, inventory control, and site cleanup
  • Operate HEPA vacuums, negative air machines, air scrubbers, and other environmental remediation equipment
  • Work with power tools and perform demolition as required throughout projects
  • Establish and maintain schedules to ensure services are completed efficiently and on time
  • Communicate professionally with customers regarding scope of work, timelines, and job expectations
  • Maintain company vehicles, tools, and assigned equipment to ensure operational readiness
  • Participate in ongoing industry training, certification renewals, and medical monitoring programs
  • Educate clients or occupants on safety measures when appropriate
  • Participate in emergency response and on-call rotations as business demands require
  • Travel throughout state with potential overnight stays when needed to support operations
  • Cross-train in related environmental and restoration services including mold remediation and demolition support
  • Perform additional operational duties and project support tasks as assigned

Requirements & Skills

  • Previous experience in asbestos abatement, construction, demolition, restoration, or environmental services preferred
  • State or federal asbestos certification/licensing preferred or ability to obtain certification upon hire
  • Knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations and hazardous material handling procedures preferred
  • Strong understanding of PPE usage, respirator safety, containment procedures, and environmental remediation practices
  • Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and industrial remediation equipment
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow safety procedures precisely
  • Ability to work independently while also thriving in a team environment
  • Positive attitude with strong work ethic and willingness to roll up your sleeves
  • Empathy, professionalism, and strong customer service skills
  • Eagerness to learn and grow within the environmental and restoration industry
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced and physically demanding environments
  • Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record
  • Ability to pass a drug test, extensive background screening, and any required medical clearances for respirator usage
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
  • Comfortable standing, walking, climbing, bending, working at elevated heights, and working in confined spaces such as crawlspaces and attics while wearing PPE and respirators
  • Comfortable working around demolition debris, hazardous materials, and varying environmental conditions
  • Ability to work overtime, participate in on-call rotations, and travel statewide as needed

Advanced Skills (Preferred)

  • Previous asbestos abatement field experience
  • First Aid and CPR Certification
  • Bilingual communication skills (English/Spanish)
  • Experience with industrial remediation equipment and containment systems
  • Knowledge of environmental remediation documentation and compliance standards
